Blás na hEireann GOLD award winning honey. Heather blend honey comes from bees foraging the Dublin Mountains heather during early August into early September. It's a natural blend as in the bees from Ballycullen collected all this honey as they were not solely collecting nectar from the heather, there was also rose-bay willow herb and ragwort flowing in abundance at the same time.
The pure heather honey only comes from when the bees only have access to the heather flowers, this is collected by bees moved up onto the Featherbeds for the month of August.
It's 100% raw Dublin honey, as it contains heather, it is not as simple to get into jars. The combs need to be cut from the frames and crushed in a bucket and pressed out through a muslin cloth. This is what adds the extra price to heather honey as its a very labor intensive crop to harvest but the taste makes it all worthwhile as this is considered the best Irish produced honey.
